Digimax 3D Object Digitizer

An easy to use, fast and very affordable way to bring the real world to your 3D work!

Simply mount an object to digitize between the screw mounts and use the probe to digitize points on your object. As you rotate the object and select points, the Digimax software automatically displays your object mesh in real-time 3D.

"One of the most pleasant surprises known to multimedia creators is the thrill of watching a new technology work perfectly... exceeds expectations for ease of use and produces breathtaking results... easy to learn... even comfortable... the process is more like sculpting than spacial geometry; more art than science."

Daniel Greenberg
Digital Video Magazine, April 1995

Easy To Use

To get started, you plug the serial cable from the Digimax to your host computer, run the Digimax software, calibrate your digitizing probe, and begin the process of digitizing your object. The object is mounted between the constraint points on either end of the Digimax.

You will find your own creative ways of afixing objects to the the left most rotaion point on the Digimax. The right most point of the Digimax is meant to allow the object to rotate freely. To date, we have found that a hot glue gun works well at restraining the object on the left most rotation point.

On the left side of the Digimax is the object rotational knob. Behind this knob, is a button that samples the position of the probe relative to the object that is mounted to the Digimax. As you rotate the knob, the object rotates, which changes the sampling position of the probe. The probe moves in and out to accomidate almost any size or shape object that you wish to digitize.

Think of the Digimax as a reverse lathe. You sample a set of points from the object and the Digimax software converts this data into a 3D object that you can render with your favorite rendering system, like Imagine from Impulse.

At $695.00 (Suggested Retail Price), the Digimax is a very affordable professional digitizer. Most other digitizers are far more expensive, can only digitize specific materials (in specific environments), and many don't even come with software.

Custom Digimax Software

The Digimax software displays four views of the object simultaneously, as it is digitized. One of the Views is a "Real Time" perspective preview that can be aligned to look at the object from any position that is most natural for you. Objects can be digitized by working in a in "Quad View" or in a singls, full screen view. The Digimax offers you complete flexibility and control over the digitizing process.

Specifications

The Digimax will handle object made of any material up to 20 inches in length and about 12 inches in diameter. The Digimax will digitize up to 1/32 of an inch precision. Digimax connects to your coumputers serial RS232 (COM) port, and ships complete with software to run on both PC (requeres DOS 5.0 or greater) or Amiga platforms. The Digimax will produce objects in Imagine's native, TDDD, format and in the industry standard DXF (3D face and poly mesh) formats.
